Street Fighter x Tekken (SFxT) producer, Yoshinori Ono, spoke with Gamasutra to discuss the game.
SFxT makes its way to North America for Xbox 360 and PS3 on March 6, 2012. A PC and PlayStation Vita version will also be released.
What can make a fighting game compelling is the amount of freedom that you have. SNK's upcoming King of Fighters XIII allows players to claim victory in a variety of ways. There are numerous options, which allows casual and hardcore gamers to expand their horizons.
Ono says he would like SFxT to go in a similar direction:
"I agree that freedom can be a really scary thing in the fighter genre. I think our aim here is similar to KOFXIII in that we want to expand on things and get as many users as possible into it. Street Fighter has a lot of professional gamers aligned with it these days, and I really appreciate that because it's energized the whole series to the point where it's almost like how it was during the Street Fighter II days. In those days, though, all you had were magazines. It's not like now, with the Internet and YouTube, where if someone discovers something, everyone immediately knows about it and starts imitating it."
In the interview, Ono also talks about the difficulty of making Tekken characters work with the 2D environment of Street Fighter. He also mentions reaching the goal of retaining the feel of both fighters in one game.
