Christian Svensson leaves position as Capcom's senior VP
Capcom is laying off numerous staff members as part of a reorganization process. One of their biggest employees has voluntarily left in the midst of change.
Christian Svensson has left the building.
The man we once knew as Capcom's senior vice president has decided to call it quits at Capcom. The news comes in the middle of Capcom's summer cleaning where they are laying off numerous employees due to a reorganization.
Svensson explained his departure on his Facebook account (via IGN).
“After nearly eight years, it is my final day at Capcom. This departure is not a bad thing for me and it’s happening mostly because I’d suggested it during the early planning for today’s reorg. While I wish the company the best of luck, Capcom is going in a different direction and the need for people at my level, relative to other areas, is lacking. Those who know me well, know that I’ve been ready to go for quite some time.”
Capcom confirmed the layoffs are due to a reorganization process. Here's what they had to say.
"Capcom today laid off several employees from the US office as part of an overall organizational restructure of the company. The transition to the new generation of hardware and changing industry landscape have required us to adapt our business to best meet our new goals. We sincerely thank each individual for their contributions and wish them well."
Svensson was known for reaching out to the community whenever he was questioned. He would explain sales figures of fighting games such as Darkstalkers Resurrection and often talked about the company's digital sales. He also helped get fighting games such as the Marvel vs. Capcom 2 re-release to hit the market.
