Ayano: Street Fighter V will probably come out in 2018 based on previous gaps

If the previous gaps between Street Fighter titles are any indication, we've still got a long way to go before Street Fighter V is released. See what Capcom producer Tomoaki Ayano had to say about a potential fifth installment inside.

See you in five years.

VG247 spoke with Capcom's Tomoaki Ayano on a timetable for Street Fighter V. Ultra Street Fighter IV is set for an early 2014 release and will feature balance changes, new modes and features as well as five new characters.

With the update being worked on, you have to think that Capcom is trying to get people invested in Street Fighter IV for at least a few years longer. Despite the original title dropping in Japanese Arcades in 2008, a proper follow up may not see the day of light until next generation consoles are well-established.

Here's what Ayano had to say on a potential Street Fighter V title.

“Game development is a long and arduous process. If you look at the history of the series, it took six years to go from Street Fighter II to Street Fighter III, and nine years to go from Street Fighter III to Street Fighter IV. Purely based on that it would probably take us until the year 2018 before Street Fighter V comes out. So I hope everyone will play Ultra Street Fighter IV for a long time.”

Street Fighter II was released in 1991. Fans of the series endured many versions of the game which included Champion Edition, Hyper Fighting, Turbo and more. It wasn't until 1997 that Street Fighter III was made. That was followed by different versions as well including Double Impact, 2nd Impact and of course 3rd Strike.

The Street Fighter IV series is no exception to the multiple versions previous installments in the Street Fighter franchise received. The fourth title was followed by Super Street Fighter IV in 2010. Arcade Edition was right behind it the following year and a free 2012 update was next. As mentioned, Ultra Street Fighter IV will see a 2014 release.
